FINDING ART IN THE CHAOS OF MODERN LIFE

We live in an almost constant state of sensory overload. From the device in our hand to the messages pouring in from social media to the barrage of advertisements that have almost synthesized themselves with the very nature of existence - success, failure, hatred, love, violence, defiance, division, conquest, fear and courage occupy every corner of our field of vision.  No other generation has had to live in a world where everyone has a voice but no one can be heard.

In my latest series of works, I try to acknowledge the sheer volume of content that overwhelms us while imagining a beautiful order within this sensory mess.  Each work imagines capturing this overwhelming data stream and taking away its power by stripping it of its content and re-creating it to make something new - an experience built of, but not controlled by chaos.

I feel a sense of peace and accomplishment by deconstructing the volume of the world around us and trying to make something interesting from it.
